SHOPPING IN BIARRITZ

Biarritz is an elegant town and likes good food. It has a love affair with chic shop windows and trendy boutiques: clothes, shoes and accessories, jewellery, Basque household linen, antiques, delicatessens or fine chocolates …The streets are ideal for leisurely window shopping, from the place Clémenceau to the Port Vieux, from les Halles to the Saint Charles quarter – but that special find may equally await you in Saint Martin or the area around la Négresse.
So put on your “espadrilles” and wander about in Biarritz. Every little corner may hide that special treasure you’d love to take away!

Mikelena Biarritz the best of Basque grocery

The Basque Country is a corner of paradise, its culture and traditions are in our DNA.
The language, the songs, the dances, the gastronomy... are our treasures.

We opened our grocery shop of regional products in 2018 in Biarritz by passion. We love to share and discover the riches of our beautiful region. The Basque country is full of traditions, know-how, passionate men and women...
With the opening of this Basque grocery shop "Mikelena" we wanted to transmit and make discover the passionate work of all our local producers.

At 26 RUE MAZAGRAN, you will find the essentials of Basque cuisine, Bayonne ham, Serrano or Iberian ham such as Bellota. Our traditional cheeses such as Ossau Iraty, not forgetting the unavoidable Espelette chilli pepper and many other specialities of Basque gastronomy. More information

Maison Adam

In 1660, at the wedding of Louis XIV in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the King's mother and the Infanta of Spain, Marie-Thérèse, succumbed to the delicacy of Monsieur Adam's macaroons and thus launched the reputation of a house that has endured for over three centuries.

Almonds, sugar, egg whites... We won't know any more about this delicious delicacy, as the secret of its manufacture has been closely guarded by the Adam family for... 13 generations. The products are local whenever possible, and all stages of production are carried out in the Basque Country to guarantee inimitable quality and taste.

Today, Andoni and Miguel Telleria-Adam are developing the business they inherited from their father Jean-Pierre, maintaining tradition while innovating in the demanding craft of pastry, confectionery and chocolate-making.
